Comment policy

WalesHome is an independent forum for fair-minded analysis and writing from and about Wales. We warmly welcome comments from readers. We encourage spirited debate and frank discussion.

But WalesHome is not a “free-for-all”. We are not obliged to publish everything and anything submitted to this site. We moderate all comments, and reserve the right to edit or withhold anything that falls outside the ethos of the site. We expect those who comment to do so in a spirit of fair-minded inquiry, and to respect the entitlement of others to hold different views from their own. If you disapprove of this policy, please do not submit a comment.

In general, we will either edit or not publish anything that is:

  • Defamatory, abusive, hectoring or ad hominem
  • Racist, sexist or in other ways discriminatory
  • Blatantly partisan, repetitive or off-topic
  • Badly written, poorly punctuated or excessively long
  • In reference to text that has been subsequently corrected (e.g a comment about a spelling mistake).

In editing comments, we will not:

  • Intentionally alter the meaning or context of a contribution
  • In other ways seek to misrepresent the views of anyone who comments.

We will:

  • Put right in a timely fashion any editing errors
  • Offer appropriate redress to anyone whose views have been unintentionally misrepresented as a result of editing.

Finally, we do not:

  • Accept responsibility for the views of anyone who comments
  • Necessarily endorse any such views, or indeed any views of those who contribute to the site in general

The role of an Editor in debates

Editors only ever moderate to uphold the above Comment Policy, and are otherwise free to join a discussion as a participant, on the same terms as everybody else.
