Newport and Ruthin – more viral videos
Postcard — By Daran Hill on August 9, 2010 10:00 amWE jumped on the bandwagon last month when we promoted the Newport State of Mind Youtube viral – which also promoted a vigorous debate. Well now Marcus Warner gets some key support in his camp…
This is one of the cleverest “political” rebuttal pieces you’ll ever see.
Meanwhile elsewhere on the net another ode to a Welsh town, Ruthin, has appeared which is also rather amusing (with thanks to Dylan Jones-Evans for pointing it out.)
Since the author doesn’t even disguise his Pontypridd roots, it can only be a matter of time before a further rebuttal piece is produced by someone actually from the North Wales town?

I missed your earlier bandwagon jump, but I fully back the GLC & Marcus on this important issue.
Steve Jones is not our fault and Josie used to work down the Riv, her brother’s safe.
Nice use of the “Never work – Full Enjoyment” graffiti opposite the job centre too. More pro-situ than the entire Manics back catalogue.
Or, indeed, someone who can actually pronounce its name.
Watch the pollution of my facebook wall of people who two weeks after spamming the original, now spam with the rebuttal that makes supporting the former look silly now.

Is that the bloke from Big Brother in the first video or another one?
Not sure how clever a rebuttal it is given that he’s betting a fiver that the people who made the Newport State of Mind video have never been to Newport. I think the video shows them in Newport doesn’t it?
As for the second, that is NOT how you say Ruthin.
Here’s the thing – perhaps all of these videos are good?
Mr Warner, musical fascist that he is, will probably never be convinced….
Also worth noting that in the first of these videos, whilst producing a fine rebuttal – he remarks that the original video ‘made him smile’ – as it did me.
GLC telling how it is.

The fact I am a muscial fascist aside, my problem with the original video was that it tacked Newport onto the title, while proceeding to reference pretty hazy ‘Welsh’ things that had nothing to do with Newport.
I am glad Rhys has put that viewpoint down on a rekkid.
….yeahbut…
the original thing wasn’t intended to be a tribute to Newport. They just wanted to so something that sounded like “New York” and, well, Newport does. Add some Welshy stuff, cos Newport is in Wales, and bob’s yer internet hit.
Then GLC throw their toys out of the pram, cos obviously Newporty vid had more media coverage than anything they ever released, and make their own “Newport”. Yawn.
GLC bore me, always have done. Soapbars? Yeah, great advert for Newport that. Paint it like a ghetto, and people will treat it like one.
What a bunch of miserable buggers EMI are:

Yeah man, The Beatles had some tunes, but Oasis were much better.
“if you want cheese on your chips, medieval ships, see mattresses in skips, then comes take a trips”
That line is pure brilliance.
