It is common knowledge that the following issues had to be approved by the UK government and the other place. Free prescriptions, bus pass, recycling, smoking ban, student fees and the sprinkler system in new properties. Approved at a great unnecessary cost to the taxpayer by UK politicians who are guilty of involving us in three wars costing billions, £20bn for Trident, £15bn for Afghanistan, £1bn for India, £8bn written off the Defence budget, £36bn Budget over run.
Also, where has all the money gone that successive governments have saved from the privatization of public assets over the past 31 years?
It is a disgrace that Rachel Banner and her supporters insinuate that the members of the National Assembly are not competent to introduce legislation without the approval of the bear next door.
There are more competent people among the 60 members of the Senedd than that there are in the Commons and the Lords combined as anyone can witness by the quality of the debate and the prudent manner in which they control their budget.

I'm ashamed to think that there are Welsh people that would still rather be controlled by England! WHY?

More obvious than that though Saethwyr is the fact that True Wales object to a Welsh elite but clearly have no problem with the elite over in Westminster.

I haven't looked back over the other comments but has anybody else mentioned the obvious? Ms Banner is attacking the so called "elitism" of the Welsh political class, yet did she not attend Queen Mary's and then Jesus College, Oxford? Because you can't really get much more elitist than that.

@ Toby : The ultra hardcore Unionists have always been fixated by Westminster have they not? I can just recall the shrill voice of George Thomas talking about the importance of the 'parliamentary democracy' anything else by them is seen as undemocratic.

Rachel Banner's notions of representation and democracy always fixate on the Welsh delegation at Westminster. Although they include some very good people, their collective actions while Labour was in power at Westminster tied our Government's and Assembly's hands again and again, and left us wide open to attack by the Tories. It is a monstrous impertinence for Banner and her fellow-cheerleaders to turn around and accuse our own Government and Assembly of being ineffectual when the obstacles are the handiwork of the team for which she cheers.

Under the One Wales Agreement, between Labour and Plaid Cymru for control of the Welsh Assembly, a total of 6,500 affordable homes were to be provided over four years from 2007.

That target has been exceeded and 6,707 were built in the first three years. Caerphilly council alone has built 661 with a further 77 in 2011-12.

So please don't spread fud and misinformation. If you are going to attack something, then please get verifiable stats to back it up.

9.03

The Labour-Plaid Cymru coalition has set itself a target of creating 6,500 new affordable homes during the four years to 2011.

The coalition began during July 2007, just over three years ago.

2007-08, the number of affordable housing units built in the whole of Wales was just 744. If the level of construction equalled the 744, doubtful, the expected outcome would be half the boast, simple arithmetic.

... so my question stands, as it was put to the December 3, 2010 at 10:43 pm writer, I am sure the 6500 are not newly built affordable homes, I am also sure there will not be a surge of homes handed over to various housing authorities during the next 28 days.

Looseload... Are you suggesting that the homes don't really exist?

That it has been made up, as a kind of conspiracy?

Where exactly are they? Anyone can ask the Welsh govt and get a breakdown, they will probably mostly be in the local authority areas where demand for affordable housing is highest. They have been financing these extra houses for several years, so I don't know what point you're trying to make.
