TWO ministers have joined new First Minister Carwyn Jones’ first ever cabinet. Former Chief Whip Carl Sargeant becomes Minister for Social Justice and Local Government while former Deputy Regeneration Minister Leighton Andrews becomes Minister for Children, Education and Lifelong Learning.

Jane Hutt has moved to portfolio as Minister for Business and Budget, and two new Deputy Ministers appear following portfolio changes and the creation of two new portfolios.

Lesley Griffiths – who, along with Sargeant and Andrews, were expected to be rewarded for their roles in Carwyn’s leadership campaign team - becomes Deputy Minister for Skills, Innovation and Science. John Griffiths, another Carwyn stalwart, takes over as Counsel General & Leader of the Legislative Programme

Meanwhile, Huw Lewis will lead the newly created portfolio as Deputy Minister for Children.  In this role, Lewis – who came third in the contest – will have particular responsibility for co-ordination of Government matters relating to child poverty, an issue he has long campaigned on.
