I Hart Cymru – in Welsh
THE ISSUE of whether a candidate for First Minister can or cannot speak Welsh has never been much of an issue for me. At the start of last week I failed to see why Edwina Hart was being condemned for not being able to speak the language and when I appeared on Radio Cymru’s Dau o’r Bae programme on Friday, my public position remained the same. Quite frankly, to me there was never much of a story in this angle. And no member of the panel took the line that not being able to speak Welsh in any disqualified Edwina from leading Wales.
Edwina Hart has plenty of supporters who can speak Welsh and have never let supporting a non-Welsh speaker be an issue, Gwenda Thomas, perhaps Labour’s most regular Welsh speaking politician, amongst them. Two more add their support in this video, including former Assembly Member Catherine Thomas, and they do so in Welsh:
That’s the second campaign video we’ve had through this morning. Wonder if Matt Greenough has got the webcam out as I write?
