Profiling

THE polling data from YouGov this morning helpfully also breaks down the outcomes into factors like age, gender and socio-economic group. Looking at the data, here are some of the headline features that leap out when examining its stratification:

  • The only significant gender bias is that women are more likely to vote Conservative than men.
  • Labour support is strongest in the 35-54 age group, where 42% support them, but amongst the younger and older populations the party performs poorly.
  • Both the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats do well amongst young people under 34, with 31% and 19% voting intentions respectively compared to 26% for Labour and 15% for Plaid, which may help the Tories and Libs win or defend university seats.
  • Labour support is concentrated in social classes C2, D and E – no surprise there.
  • Plaid Cymru polls well amongst fluent Welsh speakers shocker.
