Oddities

EVERY extensive survey has a few oddities in it, and the You Gov poll released this morning did make me smile for a number of reasons. Here are a couple of absolute gems from the surveyed public:

- 3% of Plaid Cymru voters trust the UK Government a great deal to act in Britain’s best interests (not getting the message obviously)
- 1% of respondents think the European Union should have the most influence on health policy in Wales
- 1% of respondents think that local authorities are best placed to run foreign and defence policy

Wonder if either of the last two policy ideas will ever make it into a manifesto… Who will be the first ambassadorial representatives from Gwynedd? Will Torfaen ever commission its own nuclear deterrent?

Survey Report

All figures, unless otherwise stated, are from YouGov Plc. Total sample size was 1,078 adults. Fieldwork was undertaken between 21st – 23rd October 2009. The survey was carried out online. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all GB adults (aged 18+).

Hasn’t Torfaen already got a nuclear deterrent? Anyone takes a look at Paul Murphy and they will assume the country isn’t worth bombing!

As for the Plaid question how was the question set out? I would imagine that people are asked their political preference and the seperatly what they think of the UK government. In that case someone I guess may not be a supporter of Plaid but more a supporter of the actual local AM or MP. In that case they would say plaid but maybe not follow it beyond an indervidual? Just a thought?
