Let Labour be Labour – Huw Lewis’ website goes live

Labour leadership race — By Daran Hill on October 6, 2009 4:38 pm

HUW LEWIS has just launched his campaign website for the Welsh Labour leadership under the slogan “Let Labour be Labour”. The West Wing clearly casts a long shadow over the political votes he’s trying to influence. Like Bartlett, he’s perhaps the underdog seeking election to the highest office in the land from a low recognition base when first emerging on to the national political stage.

His is the third campaign website to be launched by the candidates, but it certainly has been worth the wait. And it is also clear that this site has been developed without reference to the two other campaigns. All three sites look and feel different (see Carwyn’s here and Edwina’s here). WalesHome.org will try and evaluate them all more fully further into the campaign, but for the moment this site deserves a bit of spotlight.

With far more content than Huw’s rivals, Team Lewis has clearly been preparing their ground. Bearing in mind his Diary feature starts in June 2007 (when he left the Welsh Assembly Government) and seems to incorporate his own blog and the 20:20 feed, this has been a project a long time in the making. Much like the man himself’s leadership campaign…

When you look at the site, note especially the clear place to both enrol as a campaign supporter and (stealing a march on his rivals), donate to the campaign. Read into that what you will.

The Mythbuster feature is really different too and is displayed prominently. If the campaign for Welsh Labour Leader gets dirty (or dirtier?) perhaps the other two candidates should introduce such a feature too?

My favourite bit of the site? “For the record, Huw stopped finding the Huey Lewis and the News gags funny about nine years ago.” On reading this, we were forced to change the title of this post…

  1. I have to agree, I think it is a bolshy website with plenty to get your teeth into.

    It is worth a read.

No doubt the Mythbuster might well be a nod to Walescan.com
