Edwina Hart gets backing from two CLPs already this evening

BEEN dying to use the American primary analogy again and the opportunity has just presented itself. There are, to my knowledge, at least five Constituency Labour Party meetings happening tonight at which members have the chance to endorse – or not – one of the leadership candidates.

The good news for Edwina Hart is that she has just picked up three of them. Her home constituency of Gower (no surprise there, the other candidates won their home patches, too) but also Swansea West, the home of her campaign manager Andrew Davies AM, has backed her, too.

Of particular note is the support of the nearby seat of Neath. This seat is more interesting because the local MP, Peter Hain, has stayed out of the contest; and while Gwenda Thomas AM is a key Edwina backer, local council leader Ali Thomas is backing Carwyn. These two supportive constituencies give the Health Minister four CLPs in support of her candidacy. This brings her very much back into the race with Huw and Carwyn for the most CLP nominations.

Later this evening we hope to hear from both Vale of Glamorgan CLP and Brecon & Radnorshire CLP. Any others out there too?
