Labour leadership race — By Daran Hill on September 27, 2009 10:08 pmWhen the Welsh Labour Conference met in Swansea in April, First Minister Rhodri Morgan’s speech lacked something. One delegate filled in the gap for me: “There was no clear exit plan.”
And when Rhodri spoke to his party in Brighton today, the same was true. He basically announced an announcement that is forthcoming. Once more he left the conference stage without being explicit on the time when he will leave the political one.
But then again, there would have been an outcry if he’d announced his departure from a platform in Sussex. It was probably the wisest thing he could have done.
Nevertheless, it did all remind me of a speech by another Cardiff politician who occupied a similar role and offered a different elusiveness when many expected him to name a date…
